Easter Bunny DIY

Happy Easter! If you're looking for a fun and easy project to do with the kids, then look no further than this paper Easter bunny tutorial. Not only is this craft adorable and festive, but it won’t cost you a fortune in eggs (what’s up with these crazy egg prices anyways?!).

Supplies:

  • 3 Sheets of white paper for the bunny’s body

  • 1 sheet of color paper for the bunny’s ears, nose, and feet

  • Scissors

  • Ruler

  • Pencil or black marker

  • Twine or thread

  • Glue stick

Let’s Get Started!

Step 1: Gather your supplies and take your two sheets of white paper and cut them into 8” squares.

Step 2: Using your ruler fold the both pieces of white paper accordion/fan style in 1/2” sections.

Step 3: Put glue on one end of each piece of accordion paper

Step 4: Attach the two individual pieces of paper together to make one longer accordion style piece of paper.

Step 5: Use your ruler to mark the middle (4”) of the paper, and take your twine or string and tie it around the paper to cinch it in the center.

Step 6: Use your glue stick to attach the flat ends of the paper fan to each other, forming a circle. This will be your bunny’s body.

Step 7: On your remaining piece of white paper, draw and cut out the bunny’s ears, eyes, nose, and feet. Then taking your color paper, draw and cut out smaller ears, and circles or hearts for the bunny’s toes and nose.

Step 8: Use your glue stick to attach the color paper bunny parts to the white pieces. Then glue the bunny’s ears, eyes, nose, and feet to the body.

Step 9: Using a marker, color in the bunny’s eyeballs, and some whiskers on it’s nose. For some added fun, you can glue a cotton ball to the back for a tail.

This paper Easter bunny tutorial is a fun and easy craft that's perfect for the whole family. With just a few simple materials, you can create a cute and festive decoration that will brighten up your home this Easter. So, grab your paper, glue, and scissors, and get ready to craft your way to a hoppy Easter!

Spring Clean Your Crafting Room or Space

If you're a crafting enthusiast, you know how quickly your workspace can become cluttered with materials, tools, and unfinished projects. Clutter not only makes it difficult to find what you need but can also affect your productivity and creativity. In today’s post, we'll explore some tips on how to declutter your crafting space and make it a more organized and inspiring place to work and have included a printable checklist you can download to help you get started.

Start with a Plan: Before you begin decluttering, it's important to have a plan in place. Decide what you want to achieve and how you'll accomplish it. Make a list of the areas you want to declutter, and prioritize them based on the level of clutter.

  1. Take Inventory: Take inventory of all the materials, tools, and unfinished projects in your crafting space. Sort them into piles of things you want to keep, donate, sell, or throw away. Be honest with yourself and only keep the things that you know you'll use.

  2. Create Zones: Once you've sorted everything, create zones for each type of material or tool. This will make it easier to find what you need when you need it. For example, create a zone for fabric, a zone for paper, and a zone for tools.

  3. Invest in Storage: Invest in storage solutions that fit your needs and your space. This can be anything from shelving units to storage bins or even hanging organizers. Look for solutions that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

  4. Organize Your Workspace: Organize your workspace in a way that makes sense for you. Keep frequently used materials and tools within reach, and create a designated workspace for each type of project.

  5. Set Limits: Set limits on the amount of materials and tools you keep. This will help you stay organized and prevent clutter from building up again. For example, if you have a designated shelf for yarn, set a limit on how many skeins you can keep at one time.

  6. Clean Regularly: Make it a habit to clean and declutter your crafting space on a regular basis. Set aside time each week or month to go through your materials and tools and get rid of anything that's no longer needed.

Decluttering your crafting space can be a daunting task, but it's worth the effort to create a more organized and inspiring workspace. By following these tips, you'll be able to declutter your space and create a more efficient and productive environment for your crafting projects. So, get started today and enjoy a clutter-free crafting space!

Heart Origami Tutorial

If you are new to origami this origami heart tutorial is super easy and a fun and comes together quickly. It is great for anyone to try and is also friendly for tiny hands too.

What you’ll need:

  • Square piece of paper - That’s it!

You can use origami paper if you have it on hand, but I have found that wrapping paper works really well and adds fun colors and designs, but even a post-it note will work!

Step 1

With the color/printed side of your paper facing down, rotate your paper so a corner is facing up (like a diamond) and fold your paper corner to corner.

Rotate it 90 degrees and fold corner to corner again.

Oragami heart step 1 fold paper corner to corner

Step 2

Take the top corner and fold the tip down to the center where the two folds meet.

Step 3

Take the bottom corner and fold it about halfway past the center where the two folds meet and the corner overlaps the last fold you made.

Step 4

You should now have a piece of paper that looks a little like a crystal laying on it’s side. From here you are going to take each side and fold your paper so the bottom edge lines up with the center fold.

You should have somthing that resembles a “V” now.

Origami heart 4 fold bottom edge to center fold

Step 5 - 6

Fold back all of the corners at the top of your “V” shaped piece of paper to round them out.

When you flip your paper over it should look like the diagram in step 6.

Step 7

Flip your paper back over and your heart should be complete. You can make more and change up the sizes or paper colors/patterns to get a variety of hearts.

Once you have a couple of hearts you can string them together to make some garland, you can put little notes inside them (think fortune cookie style), put them in your kids lunches, or just use them to decorate a table or wall!

10 ways Flowcode can help Etsy businesses grow

We are so appreciative of our Jingle Bash sponsors especially when they offer added benefits to our vendor community. If you missed it at the Bash we’d love to introduce you to Flowcode, a highly customizable QR code that you can personalize to match your brand presence.

QR codes promote a powerful connection between your Etsy business and your customers. With the power of Flowcode, interested customers can join your mailing list, access special discounts, post reviews, reorder their favorite items, and more.

Connecting with your customers through QR

Flowcode wants to help facilitate all of these important interactions. Check out 10 powerful ways that Flowcode keeps you connected to your customers and helps your Etsy business grow. Then head on over to Flowcode to snag a great deal to try out Flowcode Pro for free!

1. Get customer feedback

Asking your customers what they think about the product, packaging, shipping, price, service, and more is a fantastic way to foster a strong relationship with them. We recommend that you place a Flowcode within the packaging of your items or in the invoice of your service that links consumers to a feedback survey. This survey should be simple, quick, and direct. This way, you can hear their thoughts on the interaction, and thus you make the relationship more than just a transaction!

2. Use Flowcode QR codes on brochures or flyers

QR codes are perfectly designed for any distributed paper materials. This is because they can reach large audiences and instantly flow from the physical world (a brochure, flyer, poster, etc.) to the online world– their smartphone! Include a Flowcode on your paper materials with a direct call to action, like “Learn More,” “Sign up for our mailing list,” or “Scan for 10% off your first order!” These simple and direct messages help instantly connect your customers to your online storefront, review platform, social media profiles, and anything else you want.

3. Include Flowcode QR codes on business cards

Business cards may already seem archaic to some businesspeople. However, lots of business deals can still be made face-to-face. The simplest way to stay connected with prospective clients still is by exchanging your contact information via business cards. Choose to modernize yours by including a QR code that instantly scans to your mailing list sign up, a contact collection form, or a landing page that houses all the ways to reach you, including your phone, email, address, Linkedin, and more.

4. Empower your customers with information about your Etsy business

Every year, consumers are seeking out more information about the businesses they support. The average consumer is more informed now than ever, which creates an opportunity for your business to stand out! Create a QR code that links to an “Our Story” page, and place it in each order that you send out. This is a modest and direct way of showcasing your unique background, mission statement, and value.

5. Grow your social media fan base and boost engagement on social media platforms

Social media is a great way to drum up business, but it works best when your followers are engaged. This means your best bet is the get actual consumers of your products following the account. Your goal should be to immediately connect people to your social media platforms after they place or receive their order. Create a Flowcode that links to your social media platforms and include it on your business card, in your packaging, or in the newsletter. This will keep the most engaged subset of your consumers aware and active on your page.

6. Easily send customers to your online products

Customers may want to order your products later, read the full ingredients list, search for customer reviews, and more. By distributing QR codes for your products, you provide customers with an visual reminder to check them out on their own time, when it's most convenient. This gives them much more freedom to make an informed decision, and hopefully fall in love with your product!

7. Offer loyalty rewards to your best customers so they keep coming back!

Loyalty rewards are an excellent strategy to build strong customer relationships. With each sale, you could send customers a "point" towards a goal, a unique coupon code, or whatever you decide. The best way to give them access to this reward is with their own unique QR code that leads them directly to your Etsy storefront. This can also scan to a third party site where they can accumulate rewards under their profile.

8. Increase repeat orders by offering deals and promotions that expire, encouraging people to shop again before the offer ends.

Expiration dates create an incentive to purchase sooner, so they are great to promote loyal customers. These customers– who likely already plan to shop with you again— will see the added value in shopping sooner rather than later. The added ease of scanning directly to the promotion from your unique Flowcode will encourage them to return to your online storefront and make the purchase before they forget.

9. Get more reviews and testimonials from satisfied customers.

Reviews are becoming a more powerful way to get sales each day. With the ever-growing number of Etsy sellers, customers seek out positive and specific reviews to decide where to shop. Simplifying the reviewing process is the smartest thing you can do to create visible credibility and support for prospective customers.

10. Make a custom QR code for your brand that gets more engagement from customers

Engagement is a great way to know that your customers care. If they are responding to newsletters, following your social media pages, reviewing their orders, and answering your surveys, you can trust that they appreciate the goods and services you provide them. It is proven that Flowcodes— with our unique circular design– generate 18% more interest from consumers. By engaging more with your customers, you can constantly strengthen the relationship. Isn’t that the goal?

The big picture

It’s crucial to nurture the connection between your Etsy business and its loyal supporters. QR codes are a really great way to do that with as little friction as possible. Get started today with your first Flowcode, or log in to see how your current Flowcodes are performing!

Artist Spotlight: Meet Jessica of Nava's Salsa

Our next artist spotlight is a new vendor with a yummy offering. Say hello to Jessica of Nava’s Salsa who makes a variety of salsa verdes that are full of flavor. Taco 'bout tasty! 🌮🤤

Tell us about the products you make.

I make a variety of Salsa Verdes. Medium, Habanero, and Hot.

What is your favorite product that you create?

I enjoy creating them all. They have no added preservatives or sugar. I use avocado instead of oil. It's full of flavor and healthy!

What does your art-making process look like?

Making my Salsas is quite the process. I get my produce from my family's warehouse in Deep Ellum. I usually hunker down for a couple of days to make a couple hundred. The Salsas get canned so you don't have to refrigerate it until after opening.

Is your shop offering anything new/special/different at the Bash?

Yes! We will be offering a Salsa Christmas Gift Duo. It makes the perfect gift for family and friends! You will be able to pre-order it and it will get shipped out in December. This will make your holiday shopping even easier. A unique and tasty gift that everyone will love. All you have to do is order it and I will do all the work for you so you can enjoy more time with family.

What led you to start your business? How did you get started and how the journey has been so far?

I made Salsa last year around the holidays to share with family and friends. Shortly afterwards, I had a couple friends reach out asking when I was making more because they would like to buy it. I was definitely surprised by this. I decided to do a sample sale and sold over 20 jars! That is how Nava's Salsa was born.

How did you get to where you are today? How long did it take?

I launched my Etsy shop in March. I have been doing this for about a year and I am truly blessed with how much my company has grown. I wouldn't be here without my incredible customers.

Is there a story behind your shop/business name?

Yes. Nava is the name of my Mexican side of the family. I wanted to name my company something that meant a lot to me. My family is the reason why I am able to cook delicious Latin meals. The reason who I am today. My Salsa is a reflection of that.

What was first item you ever made/sold?

It was the Nava's Salsa Verde Hot! That is the Salsa that I shared around the holidays last year that everyone loved.

What makes your pieces special?

I put my heart and soul into every single jar. I make it all myself. I have shared my recipe with friends and they say they cannot make it as good as me. I think it's all the love that I put into it. It's like when your parents make your favorite meal but when you make it yourself it just doesn't taste as good as theirs.
It is a lot of work but I love every minute of it.

How do you recommend using/styling your pieces?

I put my salsa on everything! I do have recipes on my Instagram. You can put it on your breakfast tacos, mac and cheese, Chicken crockpot dishes. You can put it on just about anything and it will make your dish even more delicious.

What do you love most about running your business?

I am very passionate about cooking. I grew up cooking with my daddy, my Tias, my Primas. I have amazing memories in the kitchen with the ones I love. I love that I am able to share a little part of me with my Salsa.

What inspires you and how do you stay inspired?

Some people eat to live. I live to eat! I travel the world trying foods from different cultures. I am also always trying new recipes and then changing them up a little bit to make it more fun.

When you aren't running you business or creating, what do you spend your time doing?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends. Trying new restaurants. Traveling the world and experiencing new things.

What are challenges you’ve had to overcome?

The imposter syndrome. Those doubt you have in the back of your head that try to keep you from accomplishing your goals and dreams. That has been the biggest challenge for me but I just keep pushing forward one step at a time.

Why do you think people are drawn to your style?

My Salsa is full of flavor! it is healthy and vegan. i think people are surprised with how much flavor it has without all the junk. You can eat healthy and still have it taste good. That is what my Salsa is all about.

Which of your pieces do you think make for a meaningful gift?

Honestly, they're all so delicious they all make for a meaningful gift. It's quite hard to just choose one. I will have a Salsa Christmas Gift Duo for people to pre order that can be shipped directly to family and friends for the Holidays.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

I wish I had more arms like an Octopus. It would make my process a lot easier.

Artist Spotlight: Meet Stephanie of Ox & Pine

We’re so excited to have Stephanie of Ox & Pine returning for the 2022 Jingle Bash. Their gorgeous, handmade leather goods are always a hit! Meeting the makers and getting a peek behind the scenes is something we cherish here at Dallas Craft Collective. Read on to get to know Stephanie and Ox & Pine.

Tell us about the products you make.

We make personalized, handmade leather goods! From journals to wallets, to dog leashes, and more, we carefully handcraft each item and personalize it just how you want for a meaningful gift for you or a loved one.

What is your favorite product that you create?

Journals! I love a good personalized leather journal. I have a box full of journals I filled as a kid and some of those journals served as design inspiration for some of our journals. While I don't fill journals as quickly as I did when I was a kid, I treasure the memories that are contained in my journals. And I want others to treasure their memories and have something they love to write in.

What does your art-making process look like?

I love having time to think and make several iterations of a design until I feel it meets beauty and functions. I tend to lean towards clean lines and functionality. I don't put a design out there that I'm not fully confident in aesthetics, construction, and function.

Is your shop offering anything new/special/different at the Bash?

We'll have our famous Fan Favorite Leather Luggage Tags for $1 and our lovingly dubbed Cheery Mishaps for 50% off! We're also personalizing on-the-spot so you can leave with your beautiful leather good personalized.

What led you to start your business? How did you get started and how has the journey been so far?

As I got married and we started having kids, I was looking for something that could be my own. I had really gotten into bookbinding and leatherworking and would often work on projects during my kids' naps. I had come across Etsy and thought it would be fun to sell my own journals. So, I worked on a journal design, painstakingly took pictures, and put up my first listings on Etsy. It was just before Thanksgiving, and I ended up selling out by Christmas! I didn't have a ton of journals in stock, but it was fun to see that happen. That's when I started getting intentional about running my business. Over the past 8 years, we've gained a great group of team members and have a warehouse location now. It has come with a lot of challenges and continues to stretch my team and me. I enjoy making leather goods and being a small part of the meaningful gifts our customers are giving!

Is there a story behind your business name?

It's a simple meaning hidden in our name. Ox like a cow for leather and Pine like trees for paper. Since journals were our first product, it fits!

How did you get to where you are today? How long did it take?

A supportive family, good team members, and wonderful customers has gotten us to where we are today! It's been figuring out how to find the right team members and the proper training and support that has made a big difference. It's also been figuring out how to serve a customer well and following through with how we would want to be treated as a customer. The product itself it just one part of a larger picture, and we always work to make the very best product. We've been in business almost 8 years now, and I can't wait to see what the future holds!

What are challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Figuring out how to hire others and do well at training and supporting them. Figuring out where to get materials when your usual place is out. Repairing machines. How much space do we have for challenges? Haha! There are new things every day!

Which of your pieces do you think make for a meaningful gift?

Our personalized leather journals are a great gift. We also make personalized leather lanyards and personalized leather bookmarks. I think most of our products are perfect for a meaningful gift since you can personalize any of our handmade leather goods.

What was first item you ever made/sold?

Journals are the first items I made and sold! And one of my favorites!

What makes your pieces special?

That we carefully handcraft each piece and personalize with individual metal pieces by applying heat and pressure for a beautiful impression in the leather. You get to choose the personalization--anything from initials to a name or meaningful phrase. It truly makes it unique and your own.

How do you recommend using/styling your pieces?

Everyday use! I hope everyone puts their leather journal, leather dog leash, leather wallet, or other leather good to use each and every day.

Why do you think people are drawn to your style?

I think they like something meaningful that gets better over time. Leather is unique with it's markings and the patina it gains with use.

Which of your pieces do you think make for a meaningful gift?

Our personalized leather journals are a great gift. We also make personalized leather lanyards and personalized leather bookmarks. I think most of our products are perfect for a meaningful gift since you can personalize any of our handmade leather goods.

Do you have a dedicated workspace?

Yes! We have a warehouse where we make and ship everything from.

What do you love most about running your business?

Creating relationships with team members and hearing customers stories! Our customers are very sentimental and often share very touching stories with us. It makes it feel special for us to be a small part of that.

What inspires you and how do you stay inspired?

Working with others and problem solving, coming up with something beautiful and functional

When you aren't running your business or creating, what do you spend your time doing?

I love to spend time with my family! We like to watch movies, make cookies, and just hang out together.

If you had a superpower, what would it be?

To fly! I think it would be great to have the kind of perspective and travel ability.

Halloween How-To: Paper Bats

Get creative with the kids this Halloween with this super easy craft with supplies you probably already have around the house.

All you’ll need is the following:

  • Black construction paper

  • Scissors

  • Glue or a glue stick

  • Empty toilet paper tube

  • White paint pen

Measure out a 4 x 6'“ rectangle on you construction paper and cut it out.

Next cut out two small triangles, these will be the bats ears.

Lastly, trace out wings for your bat, these can be any fun shape so no need to worry. Try multiple wing shapes to give each of your bats a little more character!

Now let’s assemble our bat. Place glue on both short edges of your rectangle, and wrap it around your toilet paper tube.

Next glue the ears onto the inside of the toilet paper roll.

Then, glue your wings onto the back of the roll about 1/3 down from the top.

For the finishing touches, take your white paint pen and draw on eyes, a mouth with fangs, and markings for your bats ears and wings. Get creative with their expressions to add some additional personality!

How to Start A Pinterest Ads Strategy for Your Local Business

Do you have a creative business and are looking for a platform to start your marketing efforts online? If so, Pinterest could be an excellent option for you!

With over 400 million people using Pinterest every month to find ideas and inspiration for their next purchase, it's no wonder business owners, and creative entrepreneurs are turning to this platform to reach their target audiences. If you're new to Pinterest advertising or are simply looking for tips on getting started, you're in the right place. We'll share everything you need to know on creating a Pinterest ads strategy for your local business.

Setting up your Pinterest Ads Account

Setting up your Pinterest account is way simpler and cheaper than the cost of building a website. You’ll just need to provide basic information about your business, such as your name, website, and location. Then, you will be taken to the Pinterest Ads Dashboard, where you can create your first campaign.

When creating a campaign on Pinterest Ads, you must establish your campaign goals. You can choose from these three objectives: awareness, consideration, and conversion. Once you set your objective, you can select your target audience by location, gender, age, interests, and more.

After that, it’s time to create your Pinterest Ads Strategy.

Creating a Pinterest Ad Strategy

1. Decide what you want to promote.

The first step in creating a Pinterest Ads strategy is to decide what you want to promote. It could be a specific product, service, or even your brand in general. Then, you can start thinking about how to best reach your target market on Pinterest.

For instance, if you are promoting a product, you would want to ensure that your ad is visually appealing and catches the eye of potential customers. On the other hand, If you are promoting a service, you would want to focus on creating an ad that highlights the benefits of your service. You can also include a call to action that encourages users to browse your product page or book an appointment for your offered services.

2. Choose the right ad format.

Once you know what you want to promote, it's time to choose the right ad format. Pinterest offers a few different options for advertisers, so selecting the one that best fits your goals is essential.

If your goal is to drive traffic to your website or product page, then a Promoted Pin is likely the best option. This pin is a regular pin that is boosted with a budget. Or, you can use a Promoted Video to raise brand awareness or promote a sale or event through a video ranging from 30 seconds to 15 minutes in length.

But, if you want to drive traffic and increase brand awareness simultaneously, try to use a Promoted Carousel, where you can place up to five images or videos that users can swipe through.

All these three options will appear in users' feeds, search results, and related boards. So make sure that your ad is creative and visually appealing.

3. Set your budget.

The next step in creating a Pinterest Ads strategy is to set your budget. Pinterest offers advertisers two pricing options: cost-per-click (CPC) and cost-per-thousand (CPM).

For CPC, you will pay each time someone clicks on your ad. This pricing option is best for advertisers looking to drive traffic to their website or product page. While in CPM, you will pay each time your ad is shown 1000 times. This pricing option is best for advertisers looking to increase brand awareness or promote a sale or event.

Once you have selected your pricing option, you must set a daily budget you are willing to spend. Pinterest will automatically adjust your budget based on the results of your ad, so it's important to start small and increase your budget as needed.

4. Create your ad.

Now it's time to create your ad! The process will vary depending on which ad format you have chosen, but there are a few things that all ads should follow:

First, use a catchy headline and relevant keywords. These will help ensure that your ad is seen by users interested in what you are promoting.

Next, include a high-quality image or video. Remember that users on Pinterest are looking for beautiful and inspiring content, so make sure your ad measures up!

Finally, put a call to action that encourages users to click through your website or the product page. Make sure your call to action is clear and concise, and consider using a strong verb like "learn more," "discover," or "shop now."

Once you have created your ad, it's time to submit it for review. Pinterest will review your ad to check if it meets their guidelines, and they will notify you once it’s approved.

5. Monitor your results.

Once your ad is approved and running, monitoring your results is a must. Go to your Pinterest account's "Ads Manager" section to see how many people have seen your ad, how many have clicked on it, and how much money you have spent. You can also use this section to adjust your budget or targeting options. It's also a good idea to keep an eye on your website traffic and sales to see if there has been a boost since you started running ads.

As you optimize your campaign and meet your goals, congratulations! You have successfully created a Pinterest Ads strategy that works for your business. However, if you don't see the results you were hoping for, don't despair! You can always try again with a different ad format or targeting option.

Final Tip

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to creating a successful Pinterest Ads strategy. The best way to figure out what works for your business is to experiment with different ad formats, targeting options, and budgets. With a little trial and error, you'll definitely find a Pinterest Ads strategy that works for your business in no time!

Youth Entrepreneurship Program 2022

Etsy Dallas has always been about encouraging and mentoring new artists and entrepreneurs. Before we were members of the leadership team, we were new business owners learning how to take our passions and turn them into, maybe not even profitable companies, but just things that other people wanted to buy. We all remember our first craft show and remember that person or people who helped us get through it. Community over competition. This is what Etsy Dallas is all about.

As we approach the “new normal”, with its in-person events, but while things are still slower than they used to be, we decided to run a beta test of a new program, one that focuses on the next generation of entrepreneurs. This spring, we launched a trial of our Etsy Dallas Youth Entrepreneur Program!

The goal of the Etsy Dallas Youth Entrepreneur Program is to educate and inspire the next generation of artisans. The program includes seminars and workbook exercises that teach basic business principles, such as setting up an Etsy shop, pricing, marketing, and inventory, all designed to lead up to their first craft show.

At the 2021 Jingle Bash, we met a young girl who was so excited about the earrings she was making and hoped to be in a future Bash. We decided this would be a great opportunity to bring the first person into the new program.

Liana, of LoveYourDelivery, has gone through the beta program (and I think we learned as much as she did) and has done all the prep work for her first show, the 2022 Spring Bash. She has been working hard all year making lucky star earrings, mocking up her booth layout, and planning how to make sales and take credit cards.

We are very proud of how well she is doing and hope that you visit her at the Etsy Dallas Spring Bash on Saturday, April 30, in booth #23. If you are a vendor or have ever been a vendor at any show, give her some words of encouragement. We all remember that first show we did. Imagine preparing for it while still having to do your math homework and study for tests too.
