The 4th of July is almost here! If you're celebrating in the DFW area, one thing is almost certain—it’s going to be hot. This easy paper fan craft is a fun way to keep kids busy and gives them something they'll actually use while watching parades, fireworks, or backyard celebrations.
What You'll Need
2 sheets of paper (printer paper or cardstock)
2 popsicle sticks
Glue stick
Step 1: Decorate Your Paper
Start by decorating both sheets of paper with festive 4th of July designs. We printed patriotic images from online, but hand-drawn stars, stripes, fireworks, or flags make your fan even more unique! Cardstock works best for a sturdier fan, but regular printer paper works just fine too.
Step 2: Fold an Accordion
Fold each sheet back and forth in approximately 1-inch sections to create two paper accordions.
Step 3: Glue the Fan Together
Fold each accordion in half. Glue the two folded pieces together along one side to create a full fan shape. Then add a little glue where the folded centers meet to help hold everything securely in place.
Step 4: Add the Handles
Glue a popsicle stick to each of the two outer ends of the fan. These will become your handles.
Step 5: Open Your Fan
Once the glue has dried, gently bring the popsicle stick handles together to open the fan into a circle. If needed, add a small dab of glue in the center to help the fan keep its shape.
Now you're ready to stay cool in style! Whether you're heading to a parade, watching fireworks, or enjoying a backyard barbecue, this festive fan is a fun and practical craft for kids of all ages.
